HAW ICR A LADIES’ CLUB. CLOSING DAY. It wilts the general opinion that never before 1 in the history of tlyj Ladies’ Go ,f Club in Hawera hacl they had a. more successful day for the official closing ceremony of thi-! season than that held on Saturday, which marked the conclusion of the season for 1927. There were excellent ent-nips for the various competitions that are such a feature of the work of the ladies’ committee, and there were in addition many visitors to watcli the play. In addition to the closing of the season’s play, the .prizes won during the year were presented, and the fine array hais never been, excelled. It was a distinct tribute to the generous .suj>port o..ven by the members and friends. The day’, s function comprised no less than eight competitions tor seniors and juniors, with, continuous putting competitions in which the men were invited do join- Great interest was taken on them afl. The result® mere close and the play good, and the prizes well distributed. At the conclusion of the contests and after afternoon tea had bom served, the company gathered in the club house, where the trouhios were arraypd, and then they were presented by the president of the -dub, Mr C. Hay-Mac-kenzie.
Hearty tributes were paid to the good work of the. captain (Mrs Thomson), the lion, secretary (Miss H. Burgess), Mr,s I)aig2tty and the uommittee, and hearty cheers were given for them. Before the presentation, Mrs Dalgetty congratulated all on the suoc?ss of the season, and noted the fact that this was tlie first year a junior championship had been played. Slie added that more members had reduced than ever before.
