POISON TRAGEDY

ONE MAN DEAD. ANOTHER CRITICALLY ILL. SOME MYSTERIOUS FEATURES. (BX TELEGRAPH"'PRESS ASSOCIATION.) HAMILTON, Nov. 7. A poison tragedy, with which, is connected some very mysterious features, occurred at Ivaramu, a fanning district 18 miles south-west of Hamilton, on Sunday afternoon. Two farmers., Mr Allan Corn ail, aged 31, and iMr. James Oheyen. aged 4i, consumed some liquor, with the result that Cornwall was fatally poisoned and Cheyen is now unconscious and in a critical ditionMessrs C'ornal! and Cheyne, who, with their families, lived in Cheyne’s house at Iva.ra.mu, had been to a dance which they usually attended at Te Palm on Friday evenings. On returning home in their oar they found what appeared to be a .sealed bottle of beer in the vefriicliß. The night was wet, and they assumed that during the dance some of the men who were attending the entertainment had taken shelter in the car and unintentionally left the bottle there. Messrs Comall and Cheyne decided this afternoon to drink the liquor, and at 2 o’clock they opened the bottle, and each consumed a glass. Both immediately .suffered great pain and developed symptoms of poisoning. Mrs Cornall ran to a neighbour’s house for help, and Mr and Mris Arthur Smith arrived quickly and did all they could far the sufferers. Dr F. M. Silencer and Constables Kirby ancl Neil, of Hamilton, were a'.so .summon©d. Mr Cornall died at 5 o’clock, after suffering great agony. Mr Cheyne is in a critical condition and is not ex-pect-ed to recover. He hsfcs* been nemoved to the Waikato Hospital. Mr Cornall leaves three children. Mr Cheyns .iis married and has five children. .
