Two Italian fruit peddlers collided on a slippery pavement in Chicago and leaped from their trucks to fight it out with their fists. The motor car next behind crashed into their wreck, killing two elderly occuponts, who were later identified as John J. Mitchell, Chicago’s wealthiest and most prominent banker, and his wife. They were hurrying to the funeral of a friend, carrying wreaths which their lifeless hands still grasped when they were taken from the wreckage.
