A Berlin cable announces the death of Maximilian Harden, journalist, author and politician, at the age of 65 years.
Mr .T. B. Murdoch left by mail train this morning for Taumarunui on business in connection w r ith the Egmont Box Company.
Sergeant J. Henry commenced a month’s holiday leave to-day and left by motor car for Wellington this morning on his way to 'Christchurch. During his absence, Sergeant Martin, of New Plymouth, will have Charge of the Hawera police area. .Mr IT. E. Johnson, of Tokaora, and Mr M. C. CrigTiton, secretary of the Egmont A. and P. Association, left Hawera by mail train to-day for Palmerston North, where they will attend the Manawatu Show, which opens tomorrow. Mr Johnson will judge the Friesian section of cattle exhibited.
Judge Browne, is at present in Hawera, presiding over the sitting of the Native Land Court, which commenced to-day. He is a guest at the. Egmont Hotel.
The new president of the Associated Chambers of Commerce- of New Zeaand, Mr D. J. McGowan, has been actively identified with a variety of public matters ill the capital city for many yeans, holding office as president of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce in 1925-1926, a member of the Wellington Harbour Board (entering on bis sixth year), vice-president- of the Wellington Rotary Club, and the originator of the Wellington "Winter Show Association.
