GOLF.
HAWERA MEN’S CLUB. CLOSING DAY. One of the most successful functions in the history of the fiawera Alen’s Golf Club was the closing day for the 1927 season, held on Saturday at the link's, when a mixed foursome competition was played, and the presentation of prizes made. This ceremony was allotted to Mrs J. A. Dalgetty. The day was not altogether the best tor golf, a troublesome cross wind blowing all the afternoon, but everyone enjoyed the play, and some good scores were put up. The mixed foursomes, 12 holes, was won by Miss J. Page and Mr Gilbert, with, a nett score of 57, while several others were very close to the winners. The best cards returned during the afternoon were: — Miss Joan Page and Gilbert, 73 — 16—57. n _ Miss Robertson and Lewes, 68—10 — 58. Mies Death and Robb. 74 —14 —60. Page and Powell, 83 —21 — 62. Miss Burgess and Eliott, 71—9 —62. At the conclusion of the match, the president, Air C. Hay-Alackenzie, tin a brief and happy speech, said that this match closed the season for play. He apologised for the absence of the patron (Air H. G. Dickie). Air S. 0. Tonics, and Mr F. W. Sutton. Ho added that they hoped to have summer golf this year, and therefore asked all who wished to pfav to hand in their names. He also remarked on the play for the Labour Da- tourney (to-day), at which putting competitions would be held all day. He expressed liis pleasure and that pf the members in seeing ,so many present, and said he hoped they had all had a good day. He recalled that the senior championship had been won for the 11th time by O’Callaghan. The prisms for the season were then presented as below:— Senior Championship.—W. O’Callaghan. ... Reeves (Eltham). on behalf of the visitors, expressed thanks for the pleasant time tbev had had, and thus an interesting function concluded.
RAWER A MEIN’S CLUB. TO-DAY’S TOURNEY. Despite unfavourable weather conditions at the opening of tlie morning play there was a good muster of players to take part in the one day tourney arranged by the committee of the Haiwera Men’s Olub to- mark the Labour Day holiday. The course was in capital order anti much interesting play was recorded. AM day there were putting competitions, which created keen interest. CHRISTCHURCH CLUB FINAL. (by TKLKORA PH-'PH ess CHRISTCHURCH. Oct. 22. In the Christchurch Golf Chib final, D. Grant beat A. R. Blank by 10 up and 9 to play. INGLEWOOD CLUB. The closing ceremony of the season for the Inglewood Club was performed on Thursday aftarnoon in the presence of a large gathering of local and visiting golfers.
