A. MEMORIAL UNVEILED. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Oct. 29. The memorial panel in the porch of the village hall at Bislippbiourne, neai Canterbury, wihere he died three yeais n<ro, has been erected by fmenus and admirers throughout tlio world cus a tribute tq Joseph Conrad. . It was unveiled yesterday by the well-known writer, Mr. Cunningham Grab, aim, who said he had known Conrad throughout Ills career, from the days when he was unknown and poor until he became a. celebrated and successful novelist with world-wide fame. During that time he acquired a style in ESng'liisli, nervous, energetic and yet with something of Slavonic charm added. to'Saxon strength and virility. The Polish Minister, M. Skirmunt, who attended the ceremony, said that Cbm-,ad never ceased to be a Pole or divested hi,mself of his Polish traditions.

Born at Dungarvan, Ireland, in ■BO3, Monsignor was educated at the \ngusti n;an Seminary of Dungarvan, it Alt. Alellcray Abbey, and aftercards at A 1 Hallows’, Dublin, where ic was ordained in 1887. Coming to vev Zealand shortlv after, his first hiirch work was at the Basilica, Hill street, Wellington, where lie was a urate under the then Bishop of the lioeeso, Bishop Redwood. After six years in that position he had charge respectively of Patea for a year, \Yai,awa for four years, then again at hitea before coining to Hawera in 897. where he was appointed Irremovable Rector of the parish.
