THEFT FROM MOTOR CARS
(by telegraph—press association.) GISBORNE, Oct. 22.
George McKinley, aged 32, a married man, employed as a watersider, was charged at the Police Court with a scries of thefts from motor cars parked in the streets at night, die pleaded guilty to four charges and was remanded till October 31.

Harry Emanuel, said to be a bookmaker doing an extensrve business, Avas fined £IOO on a charge of keeping a common gaming house in Commerce Street. .CHARGE OF BIGAMY. AUCKLAND, Oct. 22. JveA'in Francis Burns, aged 24, Avho told Magistrate Hunt that he couldn’t pay maintenance because he had to pay instalmets off a gramophone, appeared again to-day Avhen he Avas remanded to October 31 on a charge of bigamy. AUCKLAND POLICE CASES AUCKLAND, Oct. 22. Hilda Bryant, aged 32, who has a husband and three children,’Avas charged at the Police Court Avith having stolen from a drapery shop two dresses valued at £3 3s sd. She Avas seen taking one dress and another stolen dress Avas found in her possession. Her husband is a avcllknoAvn man and there Avas absolutely no need for her to steal. The magistrate imposed a fine of £lO. Arthur James Ryan, aged 32, who posed as a superintendent engineer of New Zealand Raihvays and obtained board and lodging for lavo days under false pretences at a DoA’onpovt priA'atc hotel, had been employed by the Railway Department, but Avas not a superintending engineer. He had since paid his bill. On it being stated that there Averc valueless cheques floating round, Ryan Avas remanded for sentence. THEFT OF INSTRUMENTS. WELLINGTON. Oct. 22. Mr Salmon. S.M., imposed a sentence of one month’s imprisonment on Horace Claud WniiiAvright, an electrician, aged 42, Avho stole an electrician’s megger, and a prismatic compass valued at £SO from the hall of a pi-Hato hotel. Avherc he Avas staying and which he left Avithout paying board. A charge of complicity against Norman OsAvald Smith, Avho sold the compass to a paAvnbroker for 5s Avas dismissed, Mr Salmon holding that the evidence A\-as insufficient to conA’iet.
