For some time the question or extending the Parade lias been under consideration by the Napier City Council, negotiations having been in progress •with the Napier Harbour Hoard to acquire a portion of the foreshore lor the enlargement programme. The hoard lias willingly met the council on the muttei. uml has agreed to lease the council for •)9 years a portion of the shore at a purely nominal rental and a Hill is now being prepared to go before Parliament. The 'Bill provides that, the borough shall take an oolong istrip of kind running out one chain and a-balf from the Parade wall and extending from the baths to the level of Emerson Street. If the Bill, which will tome before Parliament this session, is passed the borough will then have control of the shore within that rectangular strip, with power to make any use of it it thinl-s in. So far no definite scheme as to its improvement has been decided upon, but it is suggested that the block should he levelled up to the hoi ( fht of the present Parade and then equipped as a recreation and amusement park.
