FREEZING WORKS.
VETO OF SALES. MEAT BOARD’S AUTHORITY CRITICISED. (BY TELEGRAPH —Pll ESS ASSOCIATION.) DUNEDIN, Oct. 22. At the annual meeting ot the South Otago Freezing Company Air James 3egg criticised the Meat Board’s power co “prevent sales of freezing works, which had made such works worthless as securities. . , Presumably lie said the Meat l>oaru was nor. exceeding the power granted by che Government, so responsibility must ■est upon tlie latter. The Reform Government apparently approved of this confiscatory legislation and its example might be greedily followed by move radical successors. They could easily imagine a board set up with the power to veto all transfers of land or other property, by its action of making property valueless. A useful precedent had been given by the Reform Government.
