SCIENTIFIC REASONS why you should Emy a Studebaker STUDEBAKER S choice of these 12 important parts are the result of many years’ experience and testing, and must mot he overlooked by the buyer. We cordially invite you to inspect the new Studebaker Cars now on exhibition in our Showrooms . X —ENGINE : STUDEBAKER has chosen the quiet L-Head motor because it has fewer working parts, is quieter, is more easily lubricated, and needs less service. 2 CRANKSHAFT: STUDEBAKER has chosen the fully machined, statically and dynamically balanced crankshaft with only four bearings. The perfectly balanced crankshaft practically floats on its bearings and ensures remarkably smooth performance at all speeds. 3 DRIVES : STUDEBAKER has chosen the simple resilient Hotchkiss Drive because it is safer and permits better spring action. In the Hotchkiss Drive the thrust is transmitted directly to the frame through resilient springs instead of a rigid tube. 4 CLUTCH : STUDEBAKER has chosen the single disc type because it is simpler ; has far fewer working parts, and is more easily adjusted. The single disc clutch permits a more compact and stronger clutch housing. 5 BRAKES : STUDEBAKER has chosen mechanically operated brakes because they are safer. If a piston or valve fails, or a rubber tube bursts on the hydraulically operated brake, every brake on the car is useless. Mechanical brakes are more easily adjusted and repaired. There is no complicated mechanism to get out of order. 6 BEARINGS : STUDEBAKER has chosen the tapered roller bearing because it is the only type of bearing which is perfectly adjustable to wear. When the bearing becomes slightly worn, a simple turn of a nut makes it as good as new. 7 REAR AXLE : STUDEBAKER has chosen the semi floating type because it is simpler. It is amply strong. The rear axle shaft of a Studebaker will take a load of 30 tons. 8— SPRING SUSPENSION : STUDEBAKER has chosen the semi-eiliptic spring because it gives greater stability and safety. There are two points of support for each spring instead of one. 9 STEERING GEAR : STUDEBAKER has chosen the worm and wheel because it is the simplest, strongest for a car of Studelaker weight, and is easily adjusted. The worm and wheel type is irreversible and does not transmit road shock to the steering wheel. 10 — TYRES: STUDEBAKER has chosen full size Balloon tyres because they are more comfortable. They ride far easier than the semi-balloon type. 301bs. of air in a full Balloon tyre will support a load requiring 40 lbs. of air in the semi-Balloon. 11— RADIATORS : STUDEBAKER has chosen the tubular because it is stronger, simpler, and less apt to develop leaks. It is more efficient for cooling. 12— BODIES : STUDEBAKER has chosen the steel body because It is safer ; more attractive ; it is lighter, making the centre of gravity lower. Narrow steel corner posts permit full vision. The steel frame takes less space and gives greater room in the car’s interior.
