THE-SMILE-CASTLE
THE CASTLE PLEDGE.
I promise to smile every time I can, and to chase all the frowns into the dark cave, where the Smile Giant will kill them with ti 3 Magic Sword Happiness. My Dear Smiles, — I’m sure you have all been interested in the choosing of the “All Black” football team which will shortly visit South Africa. Now I suppose they will be busy practisingtogether so that when they arrive at their destination they will be in the best form possible. It is a great honour to be chosen, for each player not only has to know the rules o football, but he has to be quite familiar with the rules of a British gentleman, if one cannot play a game in a spoitsmanlike fashion, know how to take a beating, know how to play fair, and also to be modest in success, then one would never do to represent New Zealand or any other part ot the British Empire. In other words, Smiles, we must be “sports” in the highest sense of the word. that, is, we must never do a mean action to anybody and always think of others. If one of our footballers only thought of himself and charged forward with the ball instead of passing it. he would never get past his opponents’ back line; it is only when all the players help each other and pass well that tries are scored. So, piy fairies, this week I want you to imagine you belong to a football team, which is youi own family. Don’t imagine for one minute that you can do everything yourselves, but always remember that you will o-et. the best results by all working together. Next week, perhaps, T shall tell you a little about South Africa and what the footballers will see on their journey there. Before I say good-night, I would like to remind you all about the Gift Cupboard. Hurry up with your gifts, Smiles ,as it would be miserably sad if Christmas arrived and some of our fairies had to acknowledge that they had missed sending a gift. Anything that will please a ehild will be welcome. Some of you may have books, some clothing. and some toys; but I am sure each one of you could make or spare one thing. Good-night, my loved ones. From your affectionate, SMILE QUEEN.
