HAWERA HIGH SCHOOL.
ANNUAL STEEPLECHASE. ON WEDNESDAY NEXT. An event of much interest in the life of the 'High School in Haivera is the steeplechase for which every year a large number of boys enter and in which good times are always recorded. This year's event will take place on Wednesday next. The course starts at the cannon in King Edward Park, proceeds through the main gates, along High Street and turns down Union Street to Glover Road. Here it turns to the right past the railway station and turns to the left over the railway, down Tawhiti Road. The senior course follows Tawhiti Road to Mason Road, about half way down the bacon factory hill, where it turns to the left. It goes along to the end of Mason lload, where it takes a half-turn to the left through a gap in a fence, across a swamp and over to a small clump of pines. At this point it turns half-left again and follows the fence up a hill to a gate in a cross fence. Here it turns sharp to the left follows the cross fence to the corner of the paddock, cuts half-right through another fence, down a hill, through two small swamps, under the railway by means of a culvert, and along the edge of a swamp to Glover Road, opposite the Egmont ’Box Company’s factory. Thence the course proceeds up Camberwell Road, into the park, and finishes at the cannon.
The junior course follows the senior to the first turning before Mason Road, where it proceeds, at rightangles to Tawhiti Road, straight across to , the pines, there re-joining the senior course. The entries are as below: —
