BAPTIST CONFERENCE.
WORK IN THE MISSIONARY FIELD. (BY TELEGP.ArH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON. Oct. 13. The Baptist conference to-day directed its attention to missionary matters. An enthusiastic welcome was given to Miss Cowles, on furlough from Eastern Bengal. In movintr the adoption of thi3 report presented bv Mr Lascelles, the Rev. Mr Ingsi congratulated the society on the splendid nature of the contents, which again revealed a. credit balance. The staff on the field had been reinforced bv Miss Livingstone and Rev. Mr Grigg and the Rev. Mr Eade. Nurse Ogilvie, of Auckland, would leave for India in a i;w days. The Rev. J. C. Martin, delegate from the Australian Baptist Missionary iSoeietv, was welcomed. The'income of the society during the year was £5882 9s 2d, plus a credit balance of £342 6s Id. The expenditure was £5891 15s sd. The churches raised £1240 10s sd. the B.W.M.U. £1274 8s sd. Sunday schools and Christian Endeavour £585 5s 4d, and' .selfdenial £I4OB 16s 7d. The sum of £SOO bad been transferred to the emergency fund and the endowment fund now stood at £5200. The election of the committee resulted in Dr. C. North. S. Barry, Revs •T. Kemp. J. Ings. E. Goring. S. Jenkin, C._W. Duncan, and W. S. Rollins being appointed.
