PERSONAL ITEMS.
Rev. W. J. Hands, a New Zealander, has been appointed Archdeacon of Fiji. Mr A. J. Geddes, gf Invercargill, one of the All Black Rugby selectors, who lias 'been spending a brief holiday with Mr W. A. Guy, ot Matiapu, left tor the south by mail train to-day. Mi-. P. J. H. White, of New Plymouth, was a passenger by the mail train tor Wellington to-day, where he will attend the meeting of the Victorian College Council. Mr P. H. Hartland, railway district traffic manager, of Wangamu, returned south from New Plymouth by this morning's mail train. Mr O. Gardner, district land valuer of Wanganui, is at present on a visit to Hawera and is staying at the Central Hotel. Mr J. Devereux, who for some time has been engaged as foreman for Mr A. Brown, contractor, left this morning for Sydney, where he proposes to reside.
Sir Alexander Gibb, a well-known British engineer, has been engaged by the Waimaknriri River Trust to report cm schemes to prevent the river’s encroaching, states a Press Association message from Christchurch. Mr. R.’ J. Linn, now of New Plymouth, one of the earliest breeders of pedigree Jerseys, was ill Hawera today, and this morning inspected the bulls at the pedigree Jersey fair. Ho will proceed to Christchurch shortly, to be present at the Royal Show and the annual meeting of the Jersey Breeders’ Council.
