BREAK IN THE MARKET

Stock market transactions broke records for the year, totalling 3,147,000 shares, half a million of which were General Motors new stock, the most active issue in the list. The total was spread over a rising market in the morning, but there was a drastic decline in the afternoon, and the whole market broke under the selling. But as trading spread out, the tickers were able to Keep pace with the fifteen minutes market. United States steel sustained the heaviest losses, being off three points at the close The General Motors old stock was off lour and a half, and the new off one and liveeighths. Expert opinion is divided regarding the permanence of the break, the general belief being that it is a reaction only, a technical correction, which will piobably soon be eliminated.
