PERSONAL ITEMS.
Rev. J. Preston, of Opunake, left by the south express this morning to attend the Presbyterian summer school opening at. Palmerston North -to-mor-row'. Mr R. E. Lye, district telegraph engineer of Wanganui, arrived in Haw'era last evening, and is a guest at the Commercial Hotel. During the visit of his revue company ttr Hawera, Mr. Geo. Wallace is staying at the Egrnont motel. News of the death of Mrs E. A. Burge, of Hawera, at the age of 44 years, will be received with much regret among a large circle of friends. She suffered a long illness, which confined her to her bed for a considerable period. Mr R. Fuller, manager of the Geo. Wallace Revue Company, and Airs Fuller arc among the guests at the Commercial Hotel. Police-Superintendent E. Murray, w'hose death Avas reported from Dunedin yesterday, Avas Avell-knoAvn in Hawera.* He Avas at one time in charge of the Taranaki district, and Avas frequently in tow'n on official business. He was a man of very genuine worth and was popular in the force and in priA'ate life. His death will bo sincerely regretted by many friends up and down the coast.
