NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. MEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP. Chong beat G. Kelly in the other semi-final of the men’s championship of the New Plymouth Club, by 6 up and 4 to play. Chong and P. Grey now meet in the final. HAWERA LADIES’ CLUB. JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL, RECORD SCORE FOR HAWERA. The junior championship honours for 1927 go to Miss Dora Hawken, who defeated Miss H. Burgess in the final on Saturday last. Miss Hawken played a splendid round, her score for the: 18 holes being 92, which is a record for the ladies’ club on this course. Miss Burgess played a good first half, her score being 48 to Miss liawken’s 47, but she was not so successful with the second nine holes, and the match ended at the 16th green 4 up and 2. in Miss Hawken’s favour.

Miss Hawken took the first hole in a birdie 3. The second and third went to Miss Burgess in bogey 6 and 5 respectively. Miss Hawken took the fourth in lx>gey 5, making the game ail square. The short fifth was halved in 4. Miss Burgess took the cliff in bogey 4, and the seventh and eighth were halved in one over bogey. At the ninth Miss Burgess pulled her drive, but recovered with her second and was 3 just short of the green, while Miss Hawken, whose long drive sliced into the hummocks at the l-ight of the fairway, lay just outside the green for 4. Miss Burgess laid her approach close to the piu, but an accurate shot from Miss Hawken stymied her and the hole was halved in 6. Miss Burgess was 1 up at the turn. At the tenth both lay just off the green with their tee shots. Miss Hawken was well, up with her mashie and holed out lor 3, while Miss Burgess was shorter with her mashie and missed her putt for a half. Match all square. At the eleventh Miss Hawken, with two splendid shots, lay just off the gTeen, while Miss Burgess was short with her second and ran just through with her mashie. Her fourth just failed to hole out, and Hiss Hawken took the hole in a birdie 4. The twelfth Miss Hawken played well in bogey o, while Miss Burgess, though coming up fairly well after a pulled drive, duffed her approach and holed out in 8. At the thirteenth both were well up with their drives, but Miss Hawken was in hummocky ground to the right, and was 3 to Miss Burgess’s 2 just- off the green, holing out in 6 to Miss Burgess’s 5. At the fourteenth Miss Hawken played a straight game and was down in 6. Miss Burgess pulled her drive close to the fence; it cost her a shot to regain the .fairway, and she holed out in 7. Miss Hawken took the fifteenth in bogey 4, which made her dor my, and won the match at the sixteenth with a birdie 4. Miss Hawken earned her handicap only last .season. This year 6he has steadily reduced it, and she has now qualified for entry into the senior' or silver medal division. Her score on Saturday is only 9 over par, and. shows remarkable progress in two years,. She is to bo heartily congratulated on her success.
