SOUND WAVES
REMARKABLE INSTRUMENT. DEMONSTRATED TO SCIENTISTS. EXTRACTING MUSIC FROM THE AIR.. BY CABLE- PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received 2.30 p.m. to-day. BERLIN, Sept. 29. A remarkable invention, whereby music .is extracted from the air, was revealed at a demonstration at Bechsteiu Hall, attended! by Professor Einstein and many German professors. Mr. C. B. Cochran is the inventor. Professor Theremin (Rhussia) stood on the stage near a small wooden box, wherefrom a foot long brass rod projected. He merely vibrated his fingers .in the air .as though playing a musical instrument. Instantly a tune was extracted as a result of the agitation, the waves reacting upon the instrument. The scientists accepted an invitation to play on the air. Everyone •succeeded in obtaining a tune. Those nearer to hand drew from the brass rod a higher note and a deeper tone as they withdrew. Certain notes were also produced by merely blinking the eyes, moving the muscles of the face at the right distance from the instrument.
The scientists agree that the invention has vast nossibilities.
