JAZZ MUSIC.
“IT'S LEAST HARMFUL FORM.” (BY TELEGRAPH—PB ESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, iSept. 30. The musical co-ordinator addressed the radio conference to-day on the subject of musical programmes. He said that in the past a false amateur standard had been created. It was the company’s aim to secure the very best talent in New Zealand and the company was determined to employ only the best professional talent. For the present this did not mean that amateurs -were to be turned clown altogether. They would be encouraged when they reached the standard of the concert platform. Uuntil then they should not be allowed to experiment at the expense of the public. In regard to jazz, Mr. Bellingham said that he had yet to hear a jazz hand in New eZaland which came up t) what he considered requisite and jazz music would be presented in its least harmful form per gramaphone. The conference decided to support Mr Bellingham, especially in regard to jazz.
