INTER-ISLAND AIATCH. THE SOUTH ISLAND’S CLAIMS. BY TELEGRAM SPECIAL TO THE STAR. WELLINGTON, Sept. 28. Though no official decision was reacliecT early in the .season, the Alanagement Committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union had an understanding that the inter-island match next year would be played m Christchurch. This was the outcome of the suggestion of the chairman (Air. S. SDean), King’s Birthday next year falling on a Sunday and the holiday bein o- observed on the Alonday, so that it was held advisable to play the interisland game in tlie south . and then bring the players to Wellington for the final match in the series of trials —the New Zealand Possible-Probable game. Since it has been found necessary to despatch the All Black team earlier, and in consequence to hold the trials during the- present season, however, the position has changed, and the allocation of the next North-South match will be made by the annual meeting of delegates next year without any recommendation for the management body. “The present ATanagement Committee is open-minded on the question of the match,” said Air. Dean to-day. “It seems to me that a great deal will depend upon when the team returns from South Africa. As things stand I see little possibility of the Alanagement Committe deciding to recommend the annual meeting to play the match at any specific place.”

A. E. COOKE’S SELECTION. WELLINGTON, Sept. 29. Advices here are that when selecting the North Island representative Rugby team the selectors announced that they had chosen what they considered to be the strongest possible fifteen for Saturday’s match to be drawn from the men available for the South African tour. The non-inclusion of A. E. Cooke, the brilliant inside back, is- due to the fact that the North Island selectors are not yet satisfied that he is able to make the trip.
