VALUE OF ADVERTISING

BRITISH PRESS INFLUENCE GREEK MINISTER’S TRIBUTE LONDON, Sept, 12. British newspapers have proved the best medium for advertising, according to a statement made concerning the first year’s £30,000 advertising campaign for increasing the .consumption of currants. During the season .just closing, tlie organisers of the campaign state that 20,000 grocers and 10,000 bakers have been influenced by advertisements to increase the use of currants in bread, buns, and confectionery. “Currants are.now being advertised in man.v countries,” said Mr D. Cacarnanos, Greek Minister in London, in an interview, but so absolute is our belief in the power of British newspaper advertising that we have decided to increase the allocation by 50 per cent., and to spend £45.000 -on advertising- during the coining season. Notwithstanding the cruel aftermath of the General (Strike, the Board of Trade figures show .an increase of about 2,000 ions consumption between last November and June. This increase, we belie ve, was largely due to advertising.”
