The vagaries of tho weather at this time of the year was forcibly demonstrated last' evening. About eight o’clock there was a sharp shower in town, but out Ketemarae Road residents report that a very severe hailstorm was experienced, the hailstones being of very large dimensions. There is an impression abroad that_ the scheme for highways construction in this district, as proposed by Mr. R. A. "R. Mair, has lapsed, but although little Ims been heard of the matter sino.e it was turned down by the Wanganui County Council it is by no means dead a? far as the'City'Council is concerned. Questioned by a “Wanganui Chronicle’’ reporter on Saturday, the Town Cleric (Mr G. March) stated that the city solicitor (Mr W. .T. Treadwell) was engaged in the preparation of the Bill for presentation to Parliament where [ the fate of the scheme would he decided.
