The Putaruru-Taupo Railway Board, which was formed! some years ago with the object of providing transport facilities for a large area of privately - owned standing timber in tHp Ongoroto, Oranui and Mokai districts, has ceased to function. The board depended on voluntary subscriptions. Its negotiations with the Government and the Taupo Totara Timber Company to acquire the existing line owned by this company fell through. The meetings of the board became less frequent and, as tlie money in hand had dwindled to nothing, the board found itself unable to carry on. The members of the board went out of office and no successors filled their places. The board has therefore ceased to exist.
