WAIOKURA MAORI CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING. The interest oreated in tennis circles round tine district among the Ma.ris has been quite remarkable, and this was expressed by the very good attendance or members at the annual meeting of the Waiokura Maori Club on Saturday, Mr T. Kururangi being in the chair. There were a number of the elders also present, a feature that will make for the good or the club. The report and balance-sheet presented showed a very healthy and promising position. In regard to finance, the position is strong, a sum of £G Gs being in hand' although considerable expense had been incurred in welcoming other clubs, Maori and pakeha.

The report stated the “trying-out” of tennis among the Maoris of the district had been most successful and that the game showed remarkable progress. The club had laid down two grass courts at the pa, a move that was largely influenced by the tourneys at Rotorua, which were attended by a number of player® from- this district. The provision of these courts served to bring together the young peop’e in a good nnd healthy game and to increase interest trophies were presented by Mr Whare Rei for competition among Maori clubs lor all Taranaki, and by Mr Taroa Ngatai for the championship doubles at the New Zealand meeting, handed over to the Maori Tennis Association. The former trophy is held by Waiokura. Hearty thanks were expressed to the elders of the hapu for permission to play at the recreation reserve at the pa, and to the womenfolk for providing so generously for visiting teams. The club is looking forward to another successful season, and, judging from last vear, this will be achieved.
