MANAIA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) GIR'LS ’ G UILD. The St. Cuthbert's Chureli Girls’ Guild gave an evening on .Wednesday in the Manaia Oddfellows’ Hall, when there was a very large attendance, the pi oeeeds going towards the guild. A rirst-elass dancing programme was provided, music being sujiplied by the Dixie Five orchestra, consisting of Messrs C. Abbott (piano), P. Mullins (violin), R. Der'bidge (saxophone), C. Hansen (euphonium), J. Davis drums and effects). Extras were played by several willing helpers. Mr. A. J. Hansen was MjC. During the evening seveial games were played and the surprise packet competition was won by Miss Ifetter and Mr. E. Young. Several vocal and instrumental items were given, a pianoforte solo by Miss G. ..1 asen and song by Miss Emily Davis. During' the evening the Rev. Solomon, Vicar, heartily thanked all present for their attendance, and also the orchestra tor their generosity in playing 'for the function. PERSONAL. Air. A. G. Bennett and Master Bennett of Manaia, are on an extended holiday to Hawke’s Bay. Misses M. and J. Hansen, of Sutherland Road, Manaia, are to be heartily congratulated on their recent success in passing their respective musical examination of the .Royal Academy with lonours.
