BREAKING AND ENTERING. (by TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 16. Seven years’ hard labour was imposed by Mr. Justice MacGregor on Joseph Nicholls, a labourer, aged 36, who pleaded guilty to breaking and entering with intent to commit a crime. The accused had a bad record. James Perry, aged 36, for a similar charge, also three -charges of breaking entering and theft, was sentenced to five years imprisonment on each charge, sentences to be concurrent. The prisoner, it was mentioned, was awaiting trial on a charge of arson. OFFENDING MOTORISTS DEALT WITH. WELLINGTON, Sept. 16. Two men, 'Richard James Thomas Cowley, a painter, aged 39, and James Vipson Milliean, a carpenter, aged 35, came before Mr. Page, iS.M., the charge being that they were intoxicated while driving in the city. The former was fiiied £2O and his license suspended for three months, and the latter was fined £25, his license being cancelled for twelve months. STOLE RING FROM BRIDE’S SLIT CASE,

AUCKLAND, Sept. IG. Dorothy May Ellen Williams, a red 32, pleaded guilty at the Police Court to theft of a diamond ring valued at £lO 10s, which she extracted from a bride’s suit case during a wedding ceremony. The accused at the time was on "probation for two years for stealing purses from per am ablators. The probation officer could not recommend leniency. The accused, who is a married woman, had been living with another man. Her mother had taken m her children from her. When sen- '■ tenced by Mr. Hunt, S.M., to one month’s imprisonment the accused collapsed and fell into the arms of a constable.

NO ESCORT PROVIDED. AUCKLAND, Sept. 16. Foster remained in custody to appear in England in connection, with alleged mail robbery of £IO,OOO in Treasury notes, arrived from Wellington this morning for embarkation on the Rualiine to-morrow, but the police know nothing about an- escort. The Ruahine’s captain says he won’t take tbe responsibility for Foster without an escort.
