AUSTRALIA’S BURDEN. NEED FOE REDUCTION. PROBLEM FOB FINANCIERS. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT. Received 12.15 p.m. to-day. ADELAIDE, Sept. 12. Discussing the question of improving Australian credit, the Federal Attor-ney-General, Mr. L'athom said that if it were possible fa improve credit and to save one per cent interest, taxation could not he reduced by ten million sterling yearly. The total amount raised .by taxation in Australia was about seventy-seven millions yearly, apart from the payment for services rendered by the railways, post office and other Departments and the Commonwealth and States paid fifty-seven millions in interest alone. Mr. Latliom said that the burden must be reduced. Probably the first business next session would be concerning finance.
