THE RIGHT-HAND RULE.

APPROVED BY AUTOMOBILE ASSN. A circular issued l>y The Automobile Association (England) and received by a Haw-era. motorist states: — “With a view to lessening the number of avoidable accidents, the secretary appeals to all road users to watch for and be prepared to give way to traffic approaching from the right. This advice applies particularly at cross reads and junctions in residential areas, where accidents can. be avoided by onserving this simple rule. “In dealing recently with a collision case a judge emphatically approved the A.A. rule. He admitted that it had no binding statutory force, but it was a rule of common-sense. He would held that anyone who neglected the rule would be priina facie to blame foi anv resulting collision.” This rule has been generally approved by Automobile Associations in New Zealand and will no doubt come to be ovnerallv recognised and incorporated with the other rules of the road now ia existence. WATER FOR THE RADIATOR. Jt is wise to make a practice of always filling the radiator with sott water whenever this can ibe obtained. Hard water contains a- certain amount of mineral matter, which tends to collect upon the insides of the water jackets and pipes and renders the cooling system Jess effective. Occasionally it may happen that soft water cannot be obtained when it is necessary to fill up on the road. Hard water may be used on these occasions without hesitation, ibut soft water should be the rule. Radiator water has sometimes a rusty appeaarnce, and when so it is just as -well to run it out while hot, before the sediment has time to settle. Fill again with clean soft water. Little attentions of this kind do not take long, and in the end one’s trouble is amply repaid.
