DONCASTER CUP. EY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received 11.15 a.in. to-day. LONDON, Sept. 9. The Doncaster Cup resulted: Bythorne 1, Grand Vitesse 2, Dark Japan 3. Four started. "Won by two lengths. HAWERA TRACK NOTES AND TOPICS. (By “Limited.”) Work on the tracks this week was of very little importance, the Wanganui meeting claiming the attention of trainers. Hawera horses nominated for the Avondale meeting on tlie 24th are: Benzora, Denier, Bisox, Killoch and Silver Rule. „ R. Brough has received an addition to his team in a two-year-old gelding by Catmint —Cool Lass, the property of Mr. H. McKenzie, of Auckland. He is a fine grown youngster, and has evidently been well done. On breeding lines he promises well. Another addition, the property of Mr. R. Brewer, is a two-year-old by Bisogne out of that fine jumping mare Utility. These two will have the tackle put on them and started right away. One of O. Cox’s boys, T. Todd, sustained a severe injury to one of his legs yesterday, a two-year-old that he was exercising becoming startled and slipping on the road with him. He wa.s taken to the hospital for treatment. Mr. T. O’Donnell’s Troilus fulfilled expectations at Wanganui on Thursday by winning the hurdle race comfort-

ably. Further successes may be looked * for, as Troilus is an exceptionally fine jumper. Mr. Alexander filly Silver Rule pleased by the way she performed in the parade, and what beats her in the Debutante Stakes to-day is expected to win.

An interesting event, the Chelmsford Stakes, run over a mile and a furlong, w.f.a., takes place to-dav, when Limerick, Commendation, and the imported horses Rionscup, Pantheon, Son o’ Mine and Ronsard meet. New Zealand-bred horses scored at Roseberry races on August 27. King’s Folly, by Absurd—Cintra. winning the cup and his half-sister. Leading Lady, bv Limond —Centra, the handicap on the same day. Another to score wa,s Climax, by So-1-ferino —Nada, wh won at Helena Vale (W.A.) on the same date. Climax was sold by Mr. E. Riddiford a few months ago. The first definite riding engagement for the New Zealand Cup announced is that of Charlie Emerson, who has been retained to pilot Rapier. Emerson lias an outstanding record of having ridden 820 winners since lie rode his first winner 19 years ago. Included among his victories are 50 important cups. Present intentions are to give the promising hurdler Aberfeldv a chance to win the New Zealand Cup. Being by Quin Abbey from Uranium fwho won the Avondale and Rotorua Cuns among her many victories) he should not be wanting in the necessary stamina requisite to show up well in su'h an event. Te Monnnni is at present hearing a very fine appearance, and with the' racing he has had and a final tuning up he will strip a very fit horse for the Avondale Cup, which is his next mission. White Fang, the New Zealand Polydamon horse, is reported training, on well in Australia, and can be looked

to perform well in coming important events. Winto Fang’s best performance was in the Eons Handicap last April wTien, carrying 9.1, he won in 11.26. Mr. -T. McMahon, chief stipendiary steward, has had to postpone his trip to Australia until later in the month. He will probably get over in time’ to attend the big meeting at Randwick in October.
