RUGBY.

MEETING OF WAIMATE CLUB. There was a good attendance, largely of the younger members, present at the general meeting of the Waimate Football Club, held last evening in the Town Hall at Manaia. • Mr. J. Paterson (president) was in the chair, and the honorary secretary (Mr. J. Bad ley) was also present. To mark the conclusion of the season and the success of the first juniors and the fourths in winning the banner and shield, it was decided to hold a social and dance on Wednesday, September 28, when the presentation of these trophies would be made. The proceeds would be handed to Mr. C. Kimberley, who had in one of the matches sustained a broken leg. A committee was set up to make arrangements, consisting of Messrs Murray Snowden, L. Hughes, Beauchamp, M. Burke, J. Hickey, Fergus, Ainsley, Tonga and E. Long, for which Mr. Hughes was to be convenor. The chairman referred to a medal presented by Mr H. Kendall, of Hawera, and it was resolved to present it to Mr E. Long, captain of the senior fifteen, who had done such good work on and off the field for the club.

On the suggestion of Mr E. Long, it was resolved to appoint a small committee to interview newplayers coming into the district and to get them to throw in their lot with Waimate. It would, Mr Long considered, be very valuable to the club. Messrs J. Paterson, C. Burke, R. Hughes, A M. Cracker and L. Hughes were asked to act.

It was resolved to procure new caps for those members of the Fourths who began play last season, and to inscribe the *1926 caps with the figures 1927, for those still in the team. Mr C. A. Burke raised the (>ne.stion of subscription, and urged that it woui’d be a better move to make the subscriptions 25s and the club pay the travelling expenses. It was decided to make this a recommendation to the committee and to suggest a senior* subscription of 255. A vote of thanks to the chairman concluded the meeting.
