CANTERBURY DEFEATS WELLINGTON.

(BY TJSBKGItAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 3. At .soccer, Canterbury beat Wellington to-dav by four goals to three m a match for the English Football Association’s trophy. Almost till tune the teams battled without either scoring. Then Dickinson sent in a cannonball shot at short range, opening the score for Wellington. A moment later I rotter 1 mating Tarrant, headed in anu equalised the scores. Canterbury scored arrain when Trotter received from Isles and netted a beauty after a long run. Again Canterbury scored utter a hard attack by the forwards, who put J. Frickleton into a position from which he scored. SCHOOLBOYS’ TEST. AUCKLAND, Sept. 3. The only soccer test of the Australian schoolboys’ tour was played at Bland ford Park to-day, New Zealand scoring a last minute goal to make' the result a draw, one all. In the first half New Zealand were slightly superior,- but at half-time there was no score. In the second half the Australians settled down to the holding conditions and, improving quickly, .scored when Mills broke through. The rest of the game was fast and open, with New Zealand tiring more quickly. Campbell and Hooper were outstanding amongst the Australians, the latter being the best nlayer on the field. Stone was New Zealand’s mainstay at full-ha-k. Defeat seemed imminent for New Zealand when Bates headed a right flank movement. He centred, and Taylor scored from a melee half a minute before time. CHATHAM CUP SEMI-FINAL. WELLINGTON, Sept. 4. At soccer, in the Chatham Cup semifinal. Ala list, beat St. Andrew’s by four goals to nil. In the club championship. Y.M.C.A. beat Seatoun by two goals to nil. JUNIORS MEET AT HAWERA. WANGANUI OUTCLASS NEW PLYMOUTH. Junior soccer teams representing New Plymouth and Wanganui made respective journeys to meet on neutral ground at Hawera on Saturday, the venue being King Edward Park. The mat li proved an easy victory for the southern team, which won by .syven goals to two. Wanganui made the pace a cracker at the outset, and by half-time had run up a tally of six, while the northern team had not opened an account. In the second half, however, the New Plymouth boys made a better showing, the disposition of the team being altered, with the result, that while Wanganui added only one to their earlier .score, the north team put on two goals. The .scorers for AVangarni i were Knowles (2), Reilly (2). Falconer (2), and Beckett, while Young and Watson goalcd for the losers. Alt. Me-Donald was referee. After the game the hov.s were entertained to tea at the Savoy, where the president of the Taranaki Football Association (Air. AV. Adams), Air. J. Swainson ("New Py-mouth), and Mr. McDonald (Wanganui) complimented the hov.s on their exhibition, and the hope was expressed that the meeting of these teams would l>e an annual event. CALEDONIANS BEAT RANGERS. In a friendly match at Fitzrov on Saturday, Caledonians rather easily accounted for Rangers by four goals to two. Although both teams were not at full strength, a. bright game was provided. Caledonians showing better combination, so that the scores somewhat flatter Rangers.
