Should they succeed in. accomplishing their purpose, in about five years Line Mr. D. Grundy and Mr. Pi Stephenson will be able to boast that they are the only two New Zealanders who can' lay claim to having walked round the world.
Mr. Grundy comes from Chris toll inch and Mr, Stephenson from Wellington, and their long trek started from the Capital City. Auckland will be the first objective, whence a., boat will be. taken tp America,. Having traversed the .First Coast of that Continent the walkers will go to Europe, visiting Germany, Italy Creese. and Turkey. The proposed route then lies through. Persia-,’ India, Assam, ISiaan, rhe Malay States, Java, and New Guinea. A vessel to Queensland and a final walk to Sydney will bring the tour to an end. it is not the walkers’ intention to “beg, borrow, or steal” en route. They hope to meet expenses by selling son veidr cards ,it being their intention to lecture as they go. A.camera, will be carried ; aod lantern slides made of the views taken. ! Only a light pack will be carried, with a suit-case sent on ahead. Tn each town visited it is hopel to get the Mayor’s signature in a special book carried, starting off. it is hoped, with the signature of the Prime. Minister. These credentials will, it is' anticipated, help in facilitating pro-o-ress in the more remote spots visited during the tour. No time-table has been arranged, but It is anticipated that about five years will bo needed to complete the tour, a self-imposed condition being that 18 out of every 20 miles shall be walked.
