The Government 'authorities officially deny the rumour of the termination of the/ preferential trade agreement between South Africa and Now Zealand. Negot.iatios were still in progress and every effort was being made to arrive at a‘ satisfactory agreement in the interests of Union exporters and producers. . South African banks have increased the interest on fixed deposits -by i per cent, for twelve months and upwards. The rate for this period is now 41 per cent., and other periods have been increased proportionately.
