OIL INDUSTRY

OVERPRODUCTION IN U.S.A. DECISION RESERVED. ALMOST A NATIONAL DISASTER. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT NEW YORK, Aug. 30. Mr Hubert Work, Secretary of tih.e Interior, addressing the American Bar Association at Buffalo, declared that overproduction of oil in the United States had reached proportions of a national -disaster, injuring millions who have their wealth invested in oil properties and depeting the natural resources which could never he replaced. Mr. Work said that the oil industry was sick, therefore repentant, and was asking for help. Constructive statesmanship was plainly needed, and the time was- ripe for action. That the leaders wisely adopted a policy of pul>jicity was shown by recent conferences, and" the placing of facts before the public is "always the best method of allaying suspicion and preventing misunderstanding. Mr. Work urged the enactment of Federal anil- State legislation as a corrective.
