“BOOK OF FRANCE”

INTERESTING GIFT. TO SIR A. CHAMBERLAIN. “FROM FRIENDS TO FRIENDS.” (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Aug. 28. Particulars are available of the “Booh of France,” with which Sir Austen Chamberlain will be presented at the Paris Hotel de Ville (town hall) next Wednesday. The tyook, which is a magnificent volume, is an epitome of the history of France, and there is only one copy. It contains a dedication in Latin: “From friends to friends in memories of glories ih common.’* The preface, written by M. Briand, expresses the hope that the concord founded by the two great nations upon their common sacrifice will endure as long as the world lasts. M. Poincare has also written a preface in which he says French men and women who have taken the initiative in preparing this book have only responded' to the gracious and friendly attention shown by the cities of Great Britain towards France when the war broke out.

M. Poincare states that proof has been given during the years that have since elapsed that the Entente is unalterable. Great Britain and France cannot always have the same opinion on the manner of carrying out the peace treaties, but their differences have never disturbed the friendship which heart and reason have combined in maintaining. It has not been in vain that the two nations have fought side by side for a sacred cause. The remembrance of the blood that they shed for the common safety has created between them indissoluble ties. ther dedications have been contributed by M. Millerand, a former President of the Republic, M. Clemenceau, and the Marshals of France, Foch, •Toffre, Petain and Lyautey.
