Three new shops being erected for Mr. W. C. Aitken are having the finishing touches given them, and when completd will lie the most attractive block of shops in the towij. Messrs. Clare, Wilson and Misses Laynton and Ingram will be the tenants. BOWLING. The Bowling Club annual meeting its to take place shorty, and it is to be hoped those interested will- attend, as there is a lot of room for improvement bn last season. The green was- in a very poor state, making good play practically impossible. Ample proof of this assertion is the poor showing of local howlers at tournaments; when they did play on good greens they were all at sea. GENERAL. Opunake’s population must be increasing at a fairly fast rate, as an extra nurse has been .sent to supplement the staff of the local hospital. HARBOUR WORKS. The wharf contractor at the harbour is making good progress, and another month should see th« wharf completed. Then will he the time for the town and district to get together and make the harbour the success it should be. The mole appears to be standing up to the heavy seas very well.
