CHILDREN’S NIGHT.

FANCY DRESS BALL,

HAWERA SCHOOL PUPILS

An ever-changing kaleidoscopic scene of colour greeted the eye of the visitor at the Winter Show flail last evening as pierrots, fairies, Gipsies, and. representatives of all the nations of the Orient moved hand in hand in the grand march. This was the occasion of the Hawera Main School’s annual fancy dress hall and several hundred children enjoyed the event to the utmost. The brightness of the costumes made gay decoration of the hall unnecessary and the spectacle as the children danced around was one of the brightest witnessed in Hawera. A large number of parents and other adults were in attendance and on the retirement »of the children shortly before ten o’clock, continued the dancing until a late hour. The “Gloomchasers”' orchestra provided music throughout the evening, and the floor was in good order. To the committee, of which Mr. J. W. Harding is chairman, is due to the credit for the excellent organisation of the ball. The headmaster, Mr. F. A. Bates, acted as marshal and controlled the exuberant spirits of the children, maintaining good order throughout while allowing them to have the maximum of enjoyment. W,hen the children had retired, Mr. J. A. Dalgetty acted as chief M.C. for the adults’ dance. An excellent supper was provided by the ladies committee of which Mrs. J. W. Harding was chairwoman.
