GR A Nl> THEATR E—TO-NIG HT. “MAN OF THE FOREST.” “Man of the Forest,” which screens at the Grand Theatre to-night, is one of the most popular of Zaire Grey’s earlier works. In the titfe role, Jack Holt saves the girl he loves from the machinations of an outlaw gang, who are trying to take a ranch away from her. The strife, between Holt and the brigands, whom lie outwits in a series of amazing exploits, foils them. The suports include “The Fighting Ranger” serial. ‘ ‘THE ARCADIANS. ’ ’ Each year some new talent is brought to light by the Hawera Operatic Society, and this year the caist is composed almost entirely of new players. Mrs Craig (Miss Amy Partridge), who plays the part of. 1 ‘Sombra’ ’ lias a very fine soprano' voice. and is most suitable for the very difficult part. Miss M. Morrissey has the advantage of last year’s experience, which makes her part of “Eileen,” the girl with a brogue, a very fitting one for her. Mrs Mcße-th has been east for Mrs Smith, and should make a good showing. She has played many parts in various operas .and the character of Mrs Smith just gives her the chance to show what she can do. The part of “Chxysea” is being taken fey Mrs Fred Lowe, who ha® a very sweet voice and a good idea of the producer’s requirements. “Th Arcadians” is rich w r ith musical gems, duets, quartettes, solos and wonderful choruses. Everything is merry .and bright right through from rise to fall of the curtain.
