MOTORISTS IN CONFERENCE.
ELECTION of officers.

The annual conference of the North Island Motor Union commenced in Napier this morning. A large attendance of delegates was presided over by Mr A. J. Toogood, Wellington. A remit was passed advocating that all local bodies be asked to remove the standard silent policeman, and substitute eight in a white line running from the intersection 14 feet down the centre of side streets.
Two remits dealing with the 'broadcasting of lectures on the subject of safety first were also passed.
The election of officers resulted:— President, Mr A. J. Toogood; vicepresidents, Messrs A. Grayson and W. Weston; executive, Messrs C. M. Banks, W. Howard Booth, W. G. Walkley, L. Ashcroft Edwards, F. J. Hill, H. C. Jones, W. O’Callaghan, A. L. Warburton and J. H. Edrnundson; auditors, Messrs Henry Kembcr and Sons; secretary and treasurer, Mr H. J. Scott. A resolution was carried protesting against the "totally inadequate sentences imposed on Stacey and Harper, who were convicted of the manslaughter of a service .car driver on the Hutt Road.” At the time of the fatality Stacey and Harper were speeding in a stolen car.
