HAWERA MEIN’S CHUB CHAMPION SHIPS. Good progress was made during the w<*ek with senior and junior golf ciliampion.ships and the eliminating rounds played provided the players for the semi-finals. Among the seniors O’Callaghan beat Page in the first round and Corfe in the- second. .Elliott beat Sutton and Little beat Hay Mackenzie ; J. Quin beat Glasson. The semi-finalists are: J. Quin v. Elliott and O’Callaghan v. Little. Further results of the juniors second round were: Mayne beat \V. Strange, Giblin beat G. Strange, It. Hunt beat Robb, and Dal go tty beat Blundell. G. Chong easily headed the list of the men’s seniors in the qualifying rounds with the fine cards- of 81 and 82—103. P. Grey was second with 83 and 87—170.
A road planer of new design, which has been constructed for the local office of the Public Works Department, is at present being tried out, says the Stratford “Post.” It has four cutting blades, and is so constructed that surplus material is passed from blade to blade and finally deposited on the side of the i-oad by the fourth blade. In a recent test the machines was drawn at a. speed of eight miles an hour by a lorry, and it is estimated that by its help long stretches of road can be efficiently maintained.
