TOURIST ON MT. VESUVIOUS.
NARROW ESCAPE FROM LAVA. ROME, Aug. 11. A tourist, who was peering into the lava from the rim of Mount Vesuvious, had a- narrow escape from a terrible death. He slipped- and was sliding down the crater side toward the lava when a sergeant of the Carabineers jumper in and threw a rope to him. The rope snapped on a sharp edge of rock, sending both further down toward the molten lava. The carabineer recovered his balance and again threw the rope to the tourist, who this time was hauled to the top after two hours of desperate struggling.
