DIVER VERSUS OCTOPUS.
EIGHT FOR A CORPSE. A fish .story, which despite its apparent incredibility, is declared to be true, is told by a diver from Seattle, U.S.A., rejoicing in the name of A. E. Hook. Hook protests that lie was 50ft under water repairing a, fish net. when he sighted a gigantic octopus making its way along the bottom of the sea, bearing iin its teiitadle.s- tire body of a man. With Ibis pike-pole Hook attacked tbe monster. The water grew cloudy as the seam must or fought grimly with all the power qf its immense arms to ward oil' the pike and .retain ills human prey. Hook -says lie concentrated hie thrusts on the middle section of the demon, cutting its body to pieces. After a terrific battle-, lasting more than, half an Ihovi.r, the otcopus. finally sank back on the muddy bottom of the sea., a.nd TTook cut loose its tentacles from the body. He brought the body ashore, where- it was. identified as that of a cook named 'Healey, who. with four others, was drowned earlier in the week when the tugboat AYa-r----ren foundered on its way from Seattle to Arictoria..
