SEMI-FINALS OF CHAMPIONSHIP.

(BY TELEGRAPH ' PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 18. The semi-final between Roberts (the champion) and Shanks (Wellington) m the New Zealand amateur billiards championship proved the best game in the event. Up to 300, Roberts gradually led, when Roberts, with 61, made the score 459 to 351 in his favour. Shanks made a wonderful rally with 66 and 83, the latter a fine all-round effort, including brilliant red losers irom the middle, and took the lead for at time. When Roberts turned 600 Shanks wa"s close behind. Roberts then showed! a return to form, and ran out with 60 unfinished. The final scores were: Roberts 666, Shanks 603. Breaks were as follows: Roberts, 42, 38, 22, 44. 22. 23. 29. 63, 33, 25, 60; Shanks, 38, 48, 40, 52, 30, 56, 83. Average, 8.2. The final between Roberts and Freeman (Wellington) commences- to-mor-row night.
