Three Island Bay fishermen named Taite, Banter and Hunter were taking their launch Norna round from tlie slip to Island Bay last night, and when near the entrance of the harbour it struck a submerged rock or some obstacle and in five minutes it had foundered. The men, foreseeing this, had stripped and, with .lifebelts on, swam for their lives, first lighting flares to attract attention. The Ara-hura saw them and stood by a mile away. Huntei, a powerful swimmer, made for her and reached her just us she was lowering a second boat. The other two took refuge on Barrett’s reef and boats got them off in time to save them from collapsing. A strong wind was blowing and the water was rough and cold. The men' seemed none the -worse for their unpleasant experience.
