Received 2.10 p.m. to-day. LONDON, Aug. 12. Carr’s sporting declaration, leaving Sussex to make 808 in 270 minutes, resulted in Notts regaining the head of the championship list. Sussex, despite Arthur Gilligan’s fine effort of 66 runs in 80 minutes, including one six and ten fours, failed half an hour before time. ENGLISH COUNTY COMPETITIONS. Received 2.10 p.m. to-day. Results of county cricket matches are as under: Middlesex in the first innings made 359 for eight wickets (Hendren _ 141, Killick 89) against Somerset, which in the first innings made 266 (Young 57, M. Lyon 55). Haig took four for 80. Middlesex won on tbe first innings. Notts in the first innings made 256 (Gunn 57, Lilley 85),and in the second 192 for six wickets, declared. Browne took four for 53. Sussex in the first innings made 141 (J. Parks 62). Barrett took four for 26, A. Staple® five for 25. In the second thev made 279 (Cook 59, J. Parks 60, A.*E. Gilligan not ont 66). Richmond took four for 45. Notts won by 28 runs. Playing for Glamorgan against Surrey, Arnoit took four for 25, Mercer six for 23. Glamorgan won. For Lancashire against Northants, McDonald took eight for 73. Lancashire won. For Hampshire against Worcester, Meade made 142. Newman took five for 75, Boyes four for 19. Hampshire won. For Derby against Yorkshire, Townsend took five for 75. For Yorkshire, Macaulay took eight for 37. Yorkshire won. For Kent against Leicester. Ashdown took five for 46.
