TRACK NOTES AND TOPCS,
(By “Limited.”)
Nominations for the Hunt Club meeting- on the 27th include the following local horses: Rayo, Lady Acre, Fermanagh, War Flame, Broad Acre, Mon Desir. Fortaliee, Partaga, Yivo, Denier, Killoch, Euphonium, Bright Glow, Bisox, Derinod, Troilus, Pink Rose, Gasnapper, Sovena and Airtight; so the, presence of Ilawera trained horses should play an important part in the success of the fixture. The stand track was used for galloping yesterday morning and some interesting work was put through. W. Pine was first to use the track, sending Sovena and Fermanagh three furlongs, accomplished nicely in 41see. Gasnapper and War Flame went together next over half a mile, War Flame finishing in front in 54 3-ssec.
Bisox and Troilus were ’ associated over five furlongs. Bisox beating her companion in 1.6 3-5, a good wdrk-out, the marc showing e,onsid’eii-ablc improvement. O. Jackson sent his pair, Partaga and Vivo over four furlongs, which tliov ran nicclv in 54sec.
Denier was responsible for the best work out of the morning, running his half-mile in 521 see.
Lady Desmond, Beremoana and Euphonium were restricted to pace work, as also were Royal Acre, Dei-mod, Airtight, Pink Rose and Benzora. Lady Acre is to fulfil her Pakarnngn engagement and is clue to leave next Tuseday. In all probability G. Holland will have the mouut.
Beau Cavalier scored" a very decisive win in the Grand National Steeplechase yesterday, and his rider received a great ovation on returning to scale. Beau Cavalier equalled Coalition’s record of winning the three big jumping events in the same year, viz.,’ the Great Northern, Wellington Steeplechase and Grand National. In each of the events he has made all his own running, staving off all challenges and winning comfortably at the finish. His time for the journey has only been beaten twice —by Oakleigh in 1922 and by Peter Maxwell last year. Beau Cavalier has an excellent chance of still adding to his fame by winning the Grand National Hurdles to-morrow, completing a double, a feat that has not yet been achieved by any horse in tlie same year, his most formidable opponent appearing to bo Perle de Loon.
