The weather was fine but cold and the course was in fast winter condition. The crowd seamed larger than is usual on Grand National day. Kaikahu led to the top of the straight, when Perle de Leon challenged and won comfortably from Rangatahi by two lengths, with a neck between second and third. Nukumai was fourth. Time, 2.41.

Shaw) ... 3 Also started : 2 Kawini, II .1; 6 Tuk-i, 11.0 and Kipling 9.0 (bracketed); 3 Maunga, 10.5; 7 Zircon, 10.2; 8 Vice Grand,. 9.0. Beau Cavalier led over the first fence and was .never headed. Maunga raced on hiis heels over the latter pa rt of th first round, but at the second fence of the stand double Maunga fell. Peter Maxwell, from well back, set out to chase the top-weight, followed by Charlatan and Kawini. Beau Cavalier, jumping ‘boldly but safely, never, 'faltered once and won easily by six lengths. Charlatan was. a length behind Peter Maxwell and Kawini was fourth, Zircon fifth and Tuki sixth. Kipling and Vice Grand did not complete the course. Time, 7.1.

After a long delay at the barrier, Arrowmir was first to show out, with Magna Charta, Kaiti, Solferite and Indian Sage handy. Soon Magna Charta rushed to the front, with Kaiti and Solferite following. Once in the •straight Magna Charta cried enough and Kaiti took the lead. Solferite, galloping resolutely, passed him and won impressively by two lengths. Nincompoop, always well placed, came fast in the straight to gain second place from Assurance, who just beat Kaiti for third place. Taboo, Chickwheat, Joy Bird and Indian Sage were next to finish.
