Mr. L. A. Nolan, who has been vicepresident and chairman of the committee of the Taranaki Jockey Club for several years was last might elected president of the club in succession to the late Mr. Newton King. Appreciative remarks were made by severa 1 members on the good work of Mr. Nolan.

Lieut. H. C. A. Fox, conductor of the Hawera. Municipal Band, who in February of this year completed sixteen years of service with the New Zealand Territorial Forces', lias (been awarded the long service medal for that period. During his term of service Lieut. Fox lias been attached as bandmaster to the 10th North Otago Reo-iment. the sth Otago Mounted Rifles, and the 2nd Cadet Battalion Hawke’s Bar Regiment.
