OPERA HOUSE—TO-NIGHT,

SYD. CHAPLIN AS “OLD BILL.”

The one enduring classic of humour which grew out of the war is Bruce Bairnsfather’s “The Better ’Ole/' which opens a two-night season at the Opera House to-night (Monday). Presented first in the famous cartoons and then transfererd to the stage, its success was instantaneous and delightful Now we have “The Better ’Ole," a "Warner Bros, picture, a gem ol comedy, with Syd. Chaplin scoring a •genuine triumph as “Old Bill,” the veteran soldier. It is the rare f infectious humour which made “The Better ’Ole” a tremendous stage success that is given a new life—-and perhaps a better one —on the screen. The wider scope of the camera afforded even a greater laughing hit. Hilarious sequences follow each other in quick succession, most of them taken from the original play, the others, quite as mirth-provoking, born from the imaginations of Syd. Chaplin and Director Chuck Reisner. The highlights of the comedy are too numerous to mention, but in a nutshell it is a riot of fun
