RAILWAY LINE BLOCKED.
SLIP NEAR WELLINGTON. (by TELEGRAPH —PR.ESB ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 1. The Railway Department’s hope of getting the express -away north this morning proved false, it being found that after the debris -at the slip was cleared and the hillside examined that the top of the Slip was still in a threatening condition'... The Department decided to run no risk and men are engaged now on the hillside, throwing down earth and rock from the danger spot. At first it was 'thought that the line would be safe by noon, but of this there was no prospect and it was proposed to get the two expresses, away as one -about two o’clock. Trains are running on the Manawatu line l as far as Ngaio, to Wellington, the paissenjeivj being met at Ngaio by buses, etc and being brought on to town, while the northern suburban traffic is dis located and heavy motor service traffic is pafsin-r through Ngahauranga Gorge to Johnsonville and places further north. Traffic to Ngaio and Kbandallah bv the Ngaio Gorge is also very heavy.
